Trevian Girls Softball Association -- TGSA

The TGSA field teams for girls ages 10 and under to 18 and under. TGSA teams are coached primarily by parent volunteers with some paid head coaches. A Board of Directors made up of parents and head coaches governs the TGSA .

The primary objective of the TGSA is to provide the best possible fast pitch softball program for the girls of New Trier High School District. In order to accomplish this goal, the program provides a high level of play and instruction as well as a consistently Softball Photochallenging and fun experience for the players. The TGSA has embodied its operating philosophy in the Trevian Philosophy and Team Agreement, which can be found on this web site. Each player, parent and coach signifies his or her acceptance by signing the Team Agreement and each Head Coach publishes written Team Policies for his or her team.

The TGSA Board consists of parents, coaches and other volunteers. The Board is responsible for setting policy and for planning and accomplishing the off-field work of the Association throughout the year. Directors are elected for one-year terms and are nominated at the Annual Meeting. The Board then elects a President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary each to serve as officers until the next Annual Meeting. Officers and Head Coaches automatically become Board members. The Board strives for parental involvement by having representation, when feasible, from all participating age groups. Head Coaches are expected to attend all monthly Board meetings.

The TGSA Board has adopted a Code of Conduct for all parents, players and guests of TGSA teams. This code is meant to ensure that sportsmanship is practiced not only by the Trevian coaches and players, but also by their fans. Moreover, this code is applicable to all TGSA softball photohome fields, to assure a constructive and safe environment for our teams during their games. While we hope that the code never has to be enforced, any member of the TGSA Board is authorized to ask that fans, coaches or players not following the code be removed from the premises.

Each year, the TGSA Board names a Coaches Committee, which is charged with approval, training, supervision and development of coaches for the Trevian program. The Coaches Committee is solely responsible for the selection and makeup of the teams. The Coaches Committee, in consultation with the Head Coach (if one is in place), considers tryout ratings, TIP observations, past performance and potential for future development when choosing each team.

The TGSA publicizes tryouts through the Trevian web site, informational flyers, local newspapers, cable TV bulletin board and park district program brochures. The TGSA asks all of its families to help communicate the program to eligible players whenever possible. The tryouts are competitive, open and fair. All players who live within the New Trier High School District are automatically eligible to try out. Residency exceptions follow the guidelines contained in the TGSA Policy for Residency Exceptions.
